I am a stay-at-home father and have two children, Bess and Jude. I was born in Ireland but my family moved to England when I was about six weeks old. We moved around a lot when I was growing up and finally settled in north London which I have always regarded as home. It is the place I met my wife and the place where my children were born.
I have been writing for many years. My poetry has been published in various anthologies and exhibitions in association with The Open Windows Gallery and Poetry On Walls. Because of my collaboration with these groups my poetry appeared in a public bank, gallery space and on a London red bus.
After my daughter Bess was born I found myself being reintroduced to children's literature. I became inspired by the picture books I was reading and when I discovered that the experience I gained from writing poetry lent itself to writing picture books it took my writing into a new and rewarding direction. My picture books are published in Denmark, Sweden, Spain (Catalan and Spanish) Columbia, Korea and the USA. They are also published in Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, South Africa and Japan.
Bringing up my children and writing takes up nearly all of my time but when the children are asleep and I'm in between projects I like to relax in front of the television. I also like to travel when the opportunity arises. I have been to India and many other places but my favourite place to visit is Northern Tuscany.
